About Me:

I write about sports from a sociological perspective. The scores and statistics don't interest me nearly as much as the human-interest stories involving sports people. I'm also interested in sports history. The three books I've written reflect my dual interests: Breaking the Ice: The Black Experience in Professional Hockey (Insomniac Press); Call the Yankees My Daddy: Reflections on Baseball, Race, and Family (Lyons Press); and Charging the Net: A History of Blacks in Tennis from Althea Gibson and Arthur Ashe to the Williams Sisters (Ivan R. Dee). I've written hundreds of articles for daily newspapers, magazines, Web sites and wire services. I'm a graduate of Fordham University and a resident of Yonkers, NY.

About Me

My name is Clarisel Gonzalez, and I'm a New York City-based freelance journalist, independent producer and active photoblogger.
I'm a veteran journalist with a background as a reporter and an editor.
